  • Chaim Kofinas, Senior Manager, and John Daly, Manager, both active members of the firm’s SALT Team, were co-presenters at the New Jersey and New York State Tax Update Webinar on August 21 for the NJSCPA. Terrific team work!
  • Tony Tuths, partner and co-practice leader of the Financial Services Group, was quoted extensively in two BNA articles in late August: “Tax Deductions: Bank of America’s Fraud Settlement May Be Partially Deductible, Practitioners Say” and “Tax Legislation: Extender That Gives Tax Relief on Forgiven Home Loans Still Necessary, Advocates Say.”  Great thought leadership!
  • Professor Ray Russolillo, Partner, presented at the Baruch College Zicklin Tax Seminar on August 26 covering a variety of topics related to recent legislation and tax incentives. Wow!
  • Jim Bourke, Partner and Practice Leader of the Technology Services Group, presented an online seminar in cooperation with Wolters Kluwer (CCH) for CPA Practice Advisor magazine on August 28 on “Beyond the Checklist: How WS+B Improved Risk Assessment and Profitability.” He also presented on September 9 at the Boomer CIO Group Meeting in Atlanta, GA, to CIOs of large US firms on “Cloud Vision.”  As always, amazing job!
  • Julia Van Saun, Supervisor, and Ryan Bixenman, Staff Level II, were guest presenters at the Farleigh Dickenson University Accounting Society on September 8.  Excellent representation from our younger staff!
  • Randy Paulikens, Partner and Litigation Support Services Team Leader, co-presented a webinar with members from AlgoValue business valuation software company on “Valuation and Equity Financing Issues for Start-Ups and Emerging Companies” on September 9. Great!
  • Rob Crigler, Partner and Healthcare Services Group member, presented at the 2014 New York Metro ASC Symposium (Ambulatory Surgery Centers) on “Improving Your ASC’s Value: Physician Buyout Strategies and Techniques for Enhancing Profitability” on September 12. Well done!
  • Scott Mariani, Tax Partner, and Rich Cohen, Partner and active member of the Not-for-Profit Services Group, headed west this week to the Financial Training Professionals Institute September 14 to 16 in Las Vegas.  Scott presented his “2014 Tax Update” to the CFO and IT professionals of the Jewish Federations from North America.
  • Bill Sansone, Partner and Team Leader of Professional Services for Law Firms sub-niche, presented a CLE program for the NJ State Bar Association on “Common Solo & Small Firm Practice Dilemmas” on September 15.
  • ERISA niche members Dave Dacey, Partner and Practice Leader, and Senior Managers Peggy Gallagher and Mike Kulick presented an “Accounting and Professional Standards Update” to the NJSCPA Union County Chapter on September 16.  Way to give back to the profession!
  • Eric Strauss, Partner and member of both the Healthcare and Not-for-Profit Services Groups, presented a webinar on September 17, “A&A Refresher for Healthcare and Not-for-Profit Professionals” to nearly 80 finance professionals.  Nice job!
  • We had great representation at the CT HFMA/CT CPA Annual Healthcare Conference September 17 in Rocky Hill, CT with Tony Panico, Partner and Team Leader of the firm’s Healthcare Reform Advisory Team, presenting an “Affordable Care Act Update” and Sumit Pal, Principal and Governance, Risk & Compliance Practice Leader, presenting on “How to be Ready for Big Data.” Terrific!
  • WS+B Partners Ed Mendlowitz and Al LaRosa hosted the NYSSCPA’s Estate Planning Committee Meeting on September 18 in the NYC office, with Al presenting on the “Common Causes of – and Avoiding – Trust & Estate Litigation.” Another great team effort!
  • Bernie Leone, Partner and active member of the Business Advisory Services group, was quoted in the recently published article, “Why CFOs must avoid being overwhelmed by details” in CGMA Magazine.  Way to go, Bernie!
  • Congrats to Bill Hagaman, our esteemed leader, who was recognized at COMMERCE Magazine’s Best Practices Awards program on September 17 which recognized the “Top Thought Leaders for 2015,” based on editorial submissions from 2014.  He was honored for a contribution related to the topic of the pros and cons of doing business in New Jersey, published in the May issue.
  • Ruben Cardona, Partner, was appointed to the audit committee of the New York State & Local Retirement System by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.  The system has over $181 Billion in assets and over $20 Billion in revenues.
  • Wendy Terry, Partner and Orlando Office PIC, was re-appointed to serve on the AICPA  Employee Benefit Plans Expert Panel for the 2014-2015  service year.
  • Peggy Gallagher, Senior Manager and active member of the A&A Services Group, was recently appointed as Chair of the NJSCPA Accounting and Auditing Standards Interest Group for a 2 year term.
