He presented a webinar entitled, “Accounting for Complex Debt vs. Equity Financial Instruments” on August 4 with 142 participants in attendance. Great thought leadership!
Jose Antunes, active member of the firm’s Technology Services Niche, spent a day at the Asbury Park, NJ-based tech hub Cowerks and met with local entrepreneurs as well as Congressman Pallone, hearing from members of the Cowerks community that operate local start-ups about how they are solving problems through innovation and what challenges they face. The event garnered a lot of media coverage with Jose being quoted or spotted in articles in NJBIZ, Asbury Part Sun, Pallone’s website, and CoWerks’ Facebook page. Tremendous!

Steve Yardumian, Partner and Financial Services Team Leader, spoke at the FRA conference in San Francisco on August 20 on the topic of “Hedge Fund Tax Outlook for 2015.” Steve was joined by several other FS team members who worked the conference to build new relationships on the West Coast. Well done!
On August 18, the Real Estate Services Group, spearheaded by Practice Leader Rebecca Machinga, hosted an invitation-only roundtable discussion in the NYC office about the Cuban economy, their emerging private sector and current and future planned real estate development. Capitalizing on the International Tax Services Group’s trip to Cuba, the roundtable discussion was led by Marcos Molina, in-house counsel with CEIBA Property Investors, Ltd, the largest developer in Cuba who the group met with during their trip, and a relationship facilitated by Staff Accountant, Richard Ingunza. Mr. Molina was in NJ visiting family and graciously accepted an invitation to speak with some of our real estate clients, business partners and niche members. The discussion was very well received, and it certainly didn’t hurt that Mr. Molina handed out Cohibas to our guests! Fantastic!

Congrats to Jim Bourke, Partner and Withum’s Director of Firm Technology, for being one of four individuals who took home a “Bridging the Gap” award, being honored on August 17 by Boomer Consulting, Inc. during the 2015 Boomer Technology Circles™ Summit in Kansas City, Missouri. The award honors individuals within the accounting profession who excel in aligning technology and firm management. Well deserved, Jim!!
The Technology Services Niche teamed with Silicon Valley Bank for a unique networking event on August 7 – a Surfing Clinic in Spring Lake, NJ followed by food and cocktails at a popular local Jersey Shore hang out. Both Withum and SVB brought staff and a handful of clients to get to know each other. Great way to mix business and pleasure!
As I write this, the Construction Services Team is hosting its Annual Fishing Trip with many great clients and friends of the firm aboard the Mi Jo out of Atlantic Highlands. A great day is being enjoyed, we are certain!
